About the study

What is the ARTEMIS study about?

ARTEMIS (Analyses to Reveal Trajectories and Early Markers of Imminent Shifts in Suicidal States) is a research study that wants to learn how changes in your daily life—like sleep, stress, mood, and activity—might help us understand when someone could be at risk for suicide.

Why are we doing this?

Many people who die by suicide have seen a doctor recently, but doctors don’t always know who is at risk. Right now, there isn’t a good way to tell when someone might be in danger. We want to change that.

ARTEMIS is trying to find patterns that show when someone’s mental health is getting worse, especially in the next day or two. If we can spot those signs early, it could help doctors and families offer support before a crisis happens.

Our goals

  • To learn how thoughts and feelings change from day to day
  • To find signs that show when someone might need help soon
  • To build strategies that help doctors know when someone is at higher risk

By joining this study, you’re helping researchers understand how to better support people during tough times—and maybe even save lives.

What we hope to achieve

Find early warning signs: We’re looking for signs that show when someone might be at risk for suicide in the next day or two. These signs could help doctors and others offer help sooner.

We want to build reliable strategies that help doctors know:

  • Who might be at risk
  • When that risk is rising
  • How to help before it’s too late

Understand different people’s experiences: Everyone is different. We’re studying thousands of people to learn how risk changes for different groups, like people with different health conditions, backgrounds, or ages.

Help prevent suicide: By learning more about how people feel and act each day, we hope to make it easier to support people before they reach a crisis.

Share what we learn: The information from this study will help other researchers and doctors. It will be shared (without names or personal details) so more people can use it to improve mental health care.

Additional details about study activities and estimated time commitment can be found on the Participant information page.
